A bomb alert has been issued at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, after police found a 'suspicious object' near the Stade De France in the French capital.

Police have been forced to cordon off an area located around the stadium, with Bild reporting that the object in question has been found at the Saint-Denis - Porte de Paris train station. It has been revealed that when the package was found, no fans were inside the Stade de France.

The stadium - that is the home of the Summer Olympics - saw fans exit at around 1:00 p.m. local time with the early session of the day completed. The action then resumes at 5.40 p.m.

A busy evening of sports awaits the Stade de France on Friday, with the athletics set to get underway. It remains to be seen whether the alert issued by the authorities will cause any sort of delay to the schedule.

Disciplines such as the men's decathlon, women's 5000m, women's triple jump, and the mixed 4x400m relay are scheduled to take place later this evening in front of a sell-out crowd. Ahead of this summer's event, the city of Paris ramped up its security, with armed police and the army on the ground.

Paris 2024 chief Tony Estanguet revealed earlier this year that organizers had rolled in an '"unprecedented" security operation to keep people safe. He told BBC Sport in April: "My message is you can have confidence with this event.

"I would like to reassure that it's non-negotiable. Security is the priority. It's the biggest event that France has ever organized, and we want to showcase the best of France. So definitely we are determined to be ready.

"We are looking forward to welcoming the world in Paris. When I discussed this with [London 2012 chief] Seb Coe, he told me…in the last 100 days, there will be more criticism, and more people worried. It's exactly what is happening.

"My role is to remain calm, remain focused on what is very important to deliver. The venues are ready, the budget is balanced. We have very good ticket sales, the level of ambition is very high."

A week into the 2024 Olympic Games, China lead the way at the top of the medal table, having won 12 gold medals. The USA are in second with nine golds, and 41 overall, whilst Team GB also have nine golds with their total tally currently at 25.
