The ACC Is Getting Roasted For Trying To Claim Katie Ledecky, Who Graduated From Stanford 3 Years Before They Joined The ACC

Yeah, that’s not how that works.

Katie Ledecky is officially the most decorated female Olympic athlete in US history after winning the silver medal in yesterday’s 4×200 meter relay, her third of this year’s games in Paris after winning bronze in the 400m freestyle and taking home the gold medal while setting a new Olympic record in the 1500m freestyle.

The 27-year old has 13 medals in her career, but still has the opportunity to add to her total tomorrow when she competes in the 800m freestyle, an event in which she’s already won 3 gold medals and could tie Michael Phelps for the record as the only swimmers – of any gender and from any country – to win 4 gold medals in the same event.

She’s just a badass. There’s really nothing more to say.

So it’s no wonder that everybody wants to claim Katie Ledecky – including the ACC.

Of course, Katie Ledecky never competed in the ACC. She attended Stanford University from 2016-2021, when Stanford, was a member of the PAC 12.

But the university joined the ACC on July 1 (after the epic collapse of the PAC 12), just in time for the Olympics. And apparently the ACC thinks that’s good enough to claim Ledecky as one of their own.

The internet, on the other hand, disagrees.

Commenters are coming together to roast the conference for trying to take credit for Ledecky’s accomplishments after they even shamelessly used the hashtag #OlympiansMadeHere on their tweet congratulating the GOAT.

And many started pointing out other great athletes that the ACC could now claim:

I mean, it’s a bold move. But can’t blame them for wanting to be able to claim one of the greatest swimmers of all time.
