Flavor Flav talks Olympics support as he says 'I can't fix everything on my own, but right now I am'

Rap's favorite hype man Flavor Flav has been giving fans all the feel-good news needed during the 2024 Paris Olympics .

Earlier this week it was revealed that he'd stepped up to pay US discus thrower Veronica Farley's rent , alongside Alexis Ohanian. It came after she tweeted: " "I compete in the Olympic Games TOMORROW and can’t even pay my rent,

"My school only sent about 75% of my rent while they pay football players (who haven’t won anything) enough to buy new cars and houses."

Flav valiantly stepped up but shared how he needs other people to get involved too. He tweeted: "Man of my word,!!! This is what I been saying and promoting with water polo,,, I can’t fix everything on my own,,, but right now I am."

The entertainer has been the biggest supporter of the United States women’s water polo Olympic team. And he is not just cheering them on by showing up to the games in France, he is also financially sponsoring the team.

Flavor Flav, who is known as a founding member of the hip-hop group Public Enemy, when it was revealed that he had become the official sponsor of the U.S. water polo teams since May. "I'm known to be the greatest hype man in America, the first, the original," he told Good Morning America while attending the Games in Paris. "I said, let me take my expertise to the water polo team."

Flav, whose real name is William Jonathan Drayton Jr., connected with the water polo teams when he came across an Instagram from U.S. women's water polo team captain Maggie Steffens, encouraging fans to support the team at the 2024 Olympics.

“Many of my teammates aren’t just badass champions, but also teachers, business owners, coaches, physicians assistants,” Maggie wrote on May 4, adding “most Olympians need a 2nd (or 3rd) job to support chasing the dream (myself included!) and most teams rely on sponsors for travel, accommodations, nutritional support, rent/lodging, and simply affording to live in this day and age. Especially female sports.”

Talent manager Rhiannon Rae Ellis shared the post with the hip-hop legend. “I have crazy ideas,” Rhiannon said at the time, according to the Philadelphia Tribune, “and Flav says yes to almost all of them.” So she asked: Why don’t we sponsor an Olympian?

Flav agreed, but instead said he wanted to sponsor the entire team. “AYYY YOOO,,, as a girl dad and supporter of all women’s sports — imma personally sponsor you my girl,,, whatever you need. And imma sponsor the whole team. My manager is in touch with your agent,” he commented on Maggie's post and the rest is history.

Flavor Flav has popular at the Paris Games thus far, cheering on Team USA water polo and received an invitation to meet the U.S. ambassador in France, and playing the piano at her residence. He recently also helped pay another Olympian Veronica Farley's rent , after bringing attention to a message of hers on X saying she wasn't able to afford her rent just a day before her competition.

American women have won three consecutive Olympic gold medals in water polo over the years, and now, with Flav's help, they are aiming to get for a fourth medal while in Paris.
