Wisconsin Planned Parenthood responds to Iowa abortion ban
3 days ago
MADISON, Wis. -- On Monday, Iowa's Supreme Court ruled to ban abortions in the state after six weeks, making Iowa the 6th state in the Midwest to have an abortion policy stricter than the standard followed under Roe V. Wade.
News 3 Now asked organizers at Planned Parenthoods in Madison if the uptick in abortion ban in other states is causing an influx at their offices.
"While I don't have numbers, I can say that, anecdotally, we know when states ban abortion there is a strain put on access states that does impact, you know, the ability to care for everyone who needs care," said Wisconsin's Planned Parenthood's Director of Communications, Analiese Eicher.
Eicher said they are ready to help patients from anywhere. This comes after a Dane County judge ruled to allow abortions in Wisconsin after 22 weeks, or roughly five months.
22 weeks is an important number because it is the amount of time when one carrying a child was able to get an abortion under Roe V. Wade.
