Too Hot To Handle's intimacy expert Brenden Durell talks major shakeups for season six

Intimacy coach Brenden Durell has been a staple on Netflix's dating series Too Hot Too Handle since nearly the beginning. However, even he was surprised by some of the new changes implemented this season.

During an exclusive chat with The Mirror , Brenden delved into some of the bold new changes the series has made this season. Brenden, who is also the founder of Unknown Intimacy, has been on the show for five of the six seasons. "It's been like a family environment. And it's something that I look forward to every year, when they give me the call to come back," he told us.

And this season was even more exciting for him because of the shakeups. He shared that he knew "this season was different than all the rest of the seasons" and that the "new changes and new direction the show is going" in is "amazing."

One of the biggest shakeups is that the cast this season knew what they were signing up for. In the past, contestants were told they'd be on a different show before learning they'd unknowingly agreed to be celibate for the length of filming.

"This season, all the contestants that are aware, they know that they're on a, essentially a celibacy retreat. They know that they're there in this space to, you know, to find romance, to find connections, but to also abide by certain guidelines that are in place," Brenden explained.

He continued: "In this case, it's like, they're all coming in without being misled about what they're on. And they all know that they're going to be exposed to personal development. They're going to be exposed to digging deep down to find out who they are and how they react in moments of discomfort. So I feel like them coming in knowing that it's Too Hard To Handle is a good thing, because they're not going to be pretending they know what they're coming for."

However, just because they claim to know what they're here for, it doesn't mean the contestants always know what they truly want. As we've seen in the season thus far, it's harder to commit to developing meaningful connections than some think. Brenden touched on the show's current drama.

"In this season, there's some contestants who came in because they're looking for a partner. And there's some ones coming in, like Charlie who just wants to have fun," he said. However, his intimacy activities on the show are for everyone as he feels they help in "displaying where people are, and also what they have to work on in order to have that beautiful experience that they truly desire."

Another twist this season is Bad Lana. Since the contestants know what they're in for this season, it only made sense for the show to implement an additional challenge and source of temptation.

"There's a new implementation of 'Bad Lana', but 'Bad Lana' is essentially I would say, alter ego to Lana. It's like the dark side of Lana," Brenden explained.

Brenden is also a fan of this twist, stating, " What I love about Bad Lana is that metaphorically, when the production told me that they were introducing Bad Lana, I was like, 'This is great, because bad Alana is like a representative of the primal desire that we all have as humans, for its love, for sex, for the primal nature of what it is to be in relationship.' So I feel that this implementation of Bad Lana is super great for the show. Because it allows people to express hidden desires, and to see how they act when there's no rules in place."

New episodes of Too Hot To Handle drop every Friday on Netflix.
