Tyreek Hill revealed hearing Tua Tagovailoa had signed his blockbuster contract with the Miami Dolphins was “the best thing ever.”

Last week, the Dolphins signed Tagovailoa to a four-year extension valued at a franchise-record $212.4 million - an average annual value of $53.1 million. It is the largest contract in franchise history.

Tagovailoa established himself as a top-tier quarterback in the NFL . Last season, he led the league with 4,624 passing yards, throwing 29 touchdowns compared to 14 interceptions as the star quarterback took the Dolphins to the playoffs.

The 26-year-old, who also led the NFL in passer rating in 2022, was still playing under the contract he signed when the Dolphins selected him with the fifth overall selection of the 2020 draft. He was chasing a deal similar to those signed by Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert , who were drafted the same year - and Tagovailoa got it.

In an interview with SiriusXM NFL Radio, Tagovailoa’s star receiver Hill claimed he was ecstatic for his quarterback because of the adversity he faced in his first handful of seasons. He is proud to see Tagovailoa overcome criticism from all angles, including even inside the Dolphins’ building.

“Hearing his story about the different coaches that he went through and just everything that he had to hear and stuff like that, it builds up to just now of seeing him sign that big deal,” Hill said. “Like, it was amazing. It was the best feeling ever. I feel like I signed the ------------- deal.

“I was like, ‘Bro, congrats to you and your family.’ ‘Cause it was a lot of people that said they didn’t want you here in this building. But here you are, finna’ sign this big-ass contract here in Miami, man. So it was the best thing ever.”

Upon seeing the deal break on social media, Hill wanted to get out of the meeting he was in to congratulate and celebrate with Tagovailoa. But the quarterback was busy signing his deal.

“It was great,” Hill added with a laugh. “It was the best day ever for me, though, because that’s my dawg, man. That’s my boy. I want to see all my boys eat, man. So, I love it.”

With Tagovailoa at the helm last season, Hill led the NFL with 1,799 yards and 13 receiving touchdowns. The Dolphins possess one of the most productive, feared, and fast receiver tandems in the NFL in Jaylen Waddle and Hill, who have accounted for 5,879 receiving yards and 32 touchdowns over the past two seasons.

Now that the contract dispute is a thing of the past, Tagovailoa, Hill, and the Dolphins offense can look to torch the NFL once again in 2024. The campaign starts at home to the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1.
