Michael Phelps' Unfiltered Reaction To Leon Marchand Breaking His Olympic Record
By Paolo Songco,

Leon Marchand turned in another incredible performance on Saturday in the men's 400m individual medley. The French swimmer finished first in what turned out to be an epic race, en route to winning his fourth gold medal in the Paris Olympics.
Marchand clocked in with a time of 1:54.06, which, unfortunately, was seven-tenths of a second shy of setting a new world record in the 200m IM. What the 22-year-old did, however, was smash the previous Olympic record (1:54.23), which was held by the great Michael Phelps.
Incidentally, Phelps was in attendance at the Paris La Defense Arena on Saturday to witness history unfold. His reaction to Marchand breaking his Olympic record, which the American set in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, says it all.
Phelps is a fan of Marchand, and he recently went viral for his live reaction to the Frenchman winning one of his four gold medals in the Summer Games.
Phelps, who himself has no less than 28 Olympic medals to his name, had a noticeably different reaction in Saturday's event, though. He was on the edge of his seat as he watched Marchand approach the finish line.

As much as he wanted to cheer on Marchand, there's no denying that there was a hint of disappointment in Phelps' unfiltered reaction. After all, Phelps' record was in place for the last eight years, and he won't get a chance to recapture it again now that he's retired.
As they always say, however, records are there to be broken.
