A 20-year-old woman has taken to Reddit to share her heartache after her mom pinched the baby name she's been dreaming of since she was a child. Since the age of nine, when she first heard the name Karina in a YouTube video, it's been her favourite.

"It's such a beautiful name, and I adore it deeply," she penned on the forum. The name was so special to her that she even named all her stuffed toys and some random objects Karina.

"I was a typical little girl, playing with baby dolls every day, pretending I was her mom and dressing her, feeding her, all the sorts! Her name was always Karina."

Her young parents, with her mum having her at 17 and now being 37 and expecting, were also fond of the name. The family was buzzing with the news that the new bairn would be a girl.

ALL THE LATEST ENTERTAINMENT, CULTURE AND CRAIC

But the plot thickened a few days back when her mum declared on Facebook that the new baby would be called Karina.

The Reddit user was gobsmacked, messaging her parents to see if they were having a laugh, but they weren't.

Since then, she's been in floods of tears, feeling robbed of the chance to call her own future daughter Karina. Her mum reckons she's overreacting.

'I ruined my sister-in-law's baby shower because I hated the name she picked'.

Folks online have sympathised with her but pointed out that she doesn't have dibs on the name nor is she planning on having kiddies any time soon.

One person responded: "Get over this crying non-stop. You don't even have children, your mother also loves this name and when and if you ever have a child, there is nothing stopping you from naming that child Karina."

"Also, they didn't steal your dream baby name. You would have needed to own it to have it stolen. You don't own it."
