In the 2023 season, La'Mical Perine started off on the Jets but failed to earn a spot on the 53-man roster. He was later cut and spent time bouncing around from Philadelphia to Miami before finally earning a spot on the practice squad with the Chiefs. He didn’t get any meaningful playtime until Week 18 when he had 76 rushing yards on 21 carries (3.62 avg) and 3 receptions for 33 yards.
These stats were a career-high in all categories, as he has never gotten many opportunities throughout his career. This offseason, he was released from the Chiefs and later signed with the Steelers. Najee Harris and Jaylen will get a majority of the team’s touches at the position, while they also brought in a nice depth piece in Cordarrelle Patterson.
With these three ahead of him, Perine will have to work to make the 53-man roster but will likely find himself back on a practice squad. Even if he does make the roster, the Steelers’ crowded RB room would not allow Perine to see the field very often.
Our consensus projections for Perine in the 2024 season are 15 carries for 69 yards, 0 rushing touchdowns, and no receptions.
