The United States men had yet to win an individual gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics until North Texas resident Vincent Hancock won gold in skeet on Saturday.

Fellow Texan Connor Prince joined Hancock on the podium, winning silver. Chinese Tapei’s Lee Meng Yuan won the bronze.

Hancock made history with his victory by joining Micahel Phelps, Carl Lewis and Al Oerter as the only Americans to win individual gold in the same event four times.

Hancock and Prince are close as Hancock coaches Prince, who was participating in the Olympics for the first time.

The teacher narrowly edged the pupil by a score of 58-57 in the final to secure his fourth gold.

Hancock’s feat is especially impressive as no other skeet participant has ever won more than one gold medal.

Prince hails from Burleson but was born in Fort Worth and trains at the Fort Worth Trap and Skeet Club while attending Tarleton State University.
