On Saturday, Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant and the USA men's national basketball team moved to 3-0 in the 2024 Paris Olympics after defeating Puerto Rico 104-83. With the win, Team USA finished with the top seed in the medal round.
In 19 minutes off the bench, Durant had another solid performance, scoring 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting while adding four rebounds and three assists. His Olympic points total went up to 483, needing just six more points to pass WNBA and Los Angeles Sparks legend Lisa Leslie (488 points) for the most Olympic points in USA history.
Leslie is well aware that Durant will likely break her record in Team USA's next game and she sent him a message congratulating him for what will come.
"Well let me start to congradulate [Kevin Durant] as he gets ready to break one of my Olympic records! The Slim Reaper!! One of my all time favorites!" Leslie posted on X.
Leslie won four Olympic gold medals with Team USA, winning one in 1996 (Atlanta), 2000 (Sydney), 2004 (Athens), and 2008 (Beijing). She also won two WNBA championships and three MVPs in her 13-year career.
Durant has already won three Olympic golds and will be looking to match Leslie with his fourth this year. He has also won two NBA championships and an MVP award.
Durant and Team USA will play in the Olympic quarterfinals on Tuesday, August 6, against Brazil. They only need to win three more consecutive games to secure gold.
