Nobody has ever accused Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh of going with the grain.

Throughout his coaching career, whether it was at Stanford, San Francisco, or Michigan, Harbaugh has routinely made waves for wild quotes, coaching tactics, or mannerisms that have endeared him among fans.

Now, in his first season with the Chargers, Harbaugh is rolling out an interesting motivational tactic to try and send a message to his team.

He's putting every player's high school recruiting rankings up on their lockers in order to show everyone that, no matter where you came from, or who you were at the previous level, you're all on level footing now.

It's an interesting strategy, and will likely bring back factoids that many fans forgot they knew. For instance, quarterback Justin Herbert was just a 3-star recruit coming out of Eugene, Oregon before going to the Oregon Ducks. In contrast, safety Derwin James was a 5-star player from Florida who was rated as the fourth-best prospect in his class.

Two different paths, but a similar result in the end.

Will the motivational tactic work, and inspire the players? Who knows, but nobody can say that it isn't unconventional.
