USA vs. Germany final score, results: Jackie Young heats up as U.S. stays perfect to close Olympic group play

Make that 56 straight Olympic wins for the United States women's basketball team, which closed out group play at the 2024 Paris Olympics with a 19-point win over Germany.

Team USA was tested early, trailing by as many as nine points in the first quarter before taking over in the second. Former No. 1 overall picks A'ja Wilson and Breanna Stewart have captured headlines to begin the tournament, but it was former No. 1 overall pick Jackie Young who stole the show against Germany.

Young, who also stars for the Las Vegas Aces, knocked down five triples en route to a game-high 19 points. Wilson and Stewart were the only other two members to finish in double figures with 14 and 13 points, respectively.

For Germany, Satou Sabally led the way with 15 points while former Syracuse standout Alexis Peterson scored 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field.

With the win, Team USA finishes atop Group C with a 3-0 record and awaits the final between France and Australia for a finalized quarterfinal bracket.

Young drains another 3 to bring her total to 17 points in the game. She's shooting 5-of-8 from long range and Team USA is up 25 points with six minutes left in the game.

12:28 p.m.: BOOM!

Jackie Young beats the third-quarter buzzer with a triple to cap off a 10-0 run and a dominant 10 minutes for Team USA, which takes a 23-point lead into the final frame after leading by just 12 at the half.

10 minutes to go and Team USA has gotten its swagger back after a slow start to the game.

12:25 p.m.: A tough moment for Germany as forward Leonie Fiebich is being attended to after colliding with Team USA's Alyssa Thomas.

Fiebich has been stellar for Germany, which has been plagued by injury throughout the tournament.

Injury timeout on the floor as Germany trails by 16 with 2:23 remaining in the third.

12:23 p.m.: 3:32 remains in the third quarter and Team USA leads by 14 points after Kelsey Plum converts an and-one.

This is Team USA's largest lead of the game.

12:15 p.m.: After a quick Germany run to open the half, Team USA has responded by forcing turnovers and extending the lead back into double digits.

The Americans lead by 10 as the third quarter reaches its midway point.

12:09 p.m.: Team USA goes with a new unit to star the second half, inserting Sabrina Ionescu and Jewell Loyd to replace Chelsea Gray and Diana Taurasi.

We'll see if the new backcourt unit results in change for the Americans.

End of first half: USA 41, Germany 29

11:54 a.m.: After a rough first quarter, Team USA looked much more like itself in the second frame, outscoring Germany 25-10 to take a 12-point lead into the halftime break.

Breanna Stewart leads the way with 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting while A'ja Wilson overcame early struggles to add eight points in the half. Kelsey Plum hasn't scored but has made her presence felt defensively and dished out three assists.

It's been an all-around effort for Team USA, which has also benefitted from contributions from Napheesa Collier, Alyssa Thomas and Jackie Young.

Germany is led by eight points from Leonie Fiebich and seven points from Satou Sabally, both of whom were held scoreless in the second quarter. Germany has also committed 15 turnovers, which has also contributed to the deficit.

11:46 a.m.: A transition layup from Breanna Stewart makes it a 16-5 advantage for Team USA in the second quarter.

11:44 a.m.: Team USA is in the lead for the first time in the game. A pair of free throws from A'ja Wilson put the United States up by four points midway through the second quarter.

11:32 a.m.: Team USA trails by three points after one quarter as Germany has impressed early on.

The WNBA talent is shining as New York Liberty forward Leonie Fiebich has scored a game-high eight points while Dallas Wings' forward Satou Sabally has seven points for Germany early on.

The Americans are led by six points from Breanna Stewart but as a team, have yet to find a rhythm. Team USA trailed by as many as nine points early on.

11:28 a.m.: Germany leads by five points late in the first quarter as Team USA is still in search of rhythm.

11:22 a.m.: It's a slow start for Team USA, which trails by nine points early on after back-to-back buckets from Leonie Fiebich. Fiebich is up to a quick eight points in the game while Breanna Stewart has scored all six USA points.
