Tommy Shelby ( Cillian Murphy ) survived more near-death experiences than a person could count during the six seasons of Peaky Blinders on Netflix, but the Birmingham gangster appears to have one more adventure in him.

Murphy along with Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight announced in June 2024 that there would be a movie following Tommy's next chapter. The film was written by Steven Knight and will be directed by Season 1 director Tom Harper .

"It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me," Murphy told Netflix in June. “It is very gratifying to be recollaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders . This is one for the fans."

The series Peaky Blinders followed Tommy Shelby from being a Birmingham street gangster to a stint in Parliament and back again. It covered the rise and fall of the Shelby family from the years 1919 through 1938 and ended with Tommy leaving the criminal life for good — or so we thought.

Here is everything we know about the upcoming Peaky Blinders film.

What is the Peaky Blinders movie called?

The title on the script, pictured by Netflix in the film announcement, reads "A Peaky Blinders Film" but that is potentially a working title and the official name will be released at a later date.

Will Cillian Murphy be in the Peaky Blinders movie?

Yes. While his fellow gangsters and enemies might think that Tommy Shelby is dead after the Peaky Blinders series finale, fans know that Shelby escaped to make a new life for himself. Murphy is set to star in and produce the new film.

Who else will be in the Peaky Blinders movie?

Casting is still ongoing, so we don't know the full cast of the film yet. However, Dune star Rebecca Ferguson joined the cast on July 25.

There are still multiple surviving Shelbys that could join Tommy in the next adventure, including his illegitimate son Due, played by Conrad Khan in the series. There's also hope that Peaky Blinders guest stars Tom Hardy and/or Anya-Taylor Joy could make an appearance in the film, but their casting has not yet been confirmed.

What is the Peaky Blinders movie about?

The last time fans saw Tommy Shelby, it was 1938 in the Peaky Blinders world.  Series executive producer Caryn Mandabach teased to Tudum at the time that if Peaky Blinders were to return for a film, there would be a time jump.

“We’re hopeful to do a movie that will not be at the same time period. It won’t be 1938. We’re gonna skip a few years as we do every year," she said . Knight followed up when the film was announced, saying, "It will be an explosive chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. No holds barred. Full on Peaky Blinders at war."

Skipping a few years ahead in the timeline will put Tommy smack in the middle of WWII. Which side will he be fighting for, and is he going to need to go back to his life of crime to survive Hitler's war? Those are the questions we wait to have answered.

What happened in the Peaky Blinders series finale?

Just like any Peaky Blinders finale, there was a lot of death and explosions. Michael Shelby ( Finn Cole ) died in the finale after trying to blow up Tommy's car. Michael believed that Tommy had been the one to kill Aunt Polly ( Helen McCrory ) earlier in the season. It wasn't Tommy, and when the mob boss realized that Michael was trying to kill him, Tommy made sure he was the first to actually pull the trigger or blow up the bomb as the case may be.

Laura "Captain Swing" McKee ( Charlene McKenna ) was actually the one responsible for Polly's death and she finally met her retribution by Arther ( Paul Anderson ) in the Season 6 finale. Billy Grade ( Emmett J. Scanlan ) also didn't survive the bloody family after it was revealed that he too was a traitor.

Meanwhile, Tommy was convinced he had a terminal brain tumor so he blew up his estate and headed out with a caravan of nomads to die alone in the countryside. It's not until he's out of town that Tommy realizes the doctor who diagnosed him was working with Oswald Mosley ( Sam Claflin ), and he wasn't sick at all. But while Tommy was putting all of that together, his camp was set on fire, destroying all of his effects and ties to his old life. He left the camp on a white horse, ready to start completely over and perhaps leave his demons behind.

When will the Peaky Blinders movie be released?

The Peaky Blinders film is still in pre-productions so fans should not expect to see the movie until late 2025 or early 2026.

Is there a trailer for the Peaky Blinders movie?

Not yet! But Parade will post it here as soon as there is.
