The drought is over for Team USA.

For the first time since 2004, an American has won the gold medal in the 100m dash at the Olympics, with Team USA star Noah Lyles beating out Jamaica's Kishane Thompson by five one-thousandths of a second in the final on Sunday afternoon.

USA's Fred Kerley finished in third place for the bronze medal.

It was an unbelievable photo-finish, with Lyles coming from behind in the race and barely edging out Thompson at the finish line to grab the gold medal. The electrifying finish caused the internet to explode on social media as fans reacted to the victory for Team USA.

Here are some of the top reactions that we saw:

This is Lyles' first medal of the 2024 Olympics, but it likely won't be his last. The American star will look to double in the 200m dash as well, which is his best event by far. He won the bronze in the 200m in the 2020 Olympics, as well as the gold in both the 2022 and 2023 World Championships.
