Jimmer Fredette confirmed on Sunday that he'll be sidelined for the next six months after suffering an injury early in Team USA's 3x3 run. That said, fans couldn't help but be heartbroken over the painful setback for the former NBA guard.

On Instagram, Fredette shared that he picked up the injury in the opening minutes of their second game against Poland. Apparently, the 35-year-old sharpshooter "tore two different ligaments completely" in his adductor.

"This is devastating for me as I have put two years into qualifying for the Olympics with this group who are my brothers," Fredette wrote in his post.

Fans quickly shared their support for Jimmer Fredette, trying to uplift his spirit with encouraging messages. Others, however, couldn't help but feel bad for him after the hard work he put in just to make the Olympics.

"You fellas earned the opportunity. So devastating !!we are proud of the work you guys put in come back stronger and better," former NBA guard Domonique Jones wrote.

"Heartbroken for you! Love you so much!" a fan added. Another supporter shared, "Jimmer, this is so heartbreaking! I’m so sorry it didn’t go the way y’all had expected and for the injury. Such a bummer! You should still be so proud of yourself. You’re a baller! Praying for a swift recovery!"

"Sorry it had to end this way. We loved watching your first two games! Rooting for 2028," a social media user furthered.

An Instagram follower added, "So sorry to have the Olympics end like this after all that you’ve put into it. Having you there suited up and cheering them on, gave your teammates the confidence to play some great ball. You’re an inspiration to all Jimmer!"

The USA men's 3x3 squad didn't make it past the group stage after tallying a 2-5 record. The team got off to a bad start after losing its first four games, and the Americans were just unable to get anything going, especially after Jimmer Fredette went down with the injury.

It remains to be seen what's next for Fredette. At 35, he'll be nearing his 40s by the next Olympics roll around, so it might be difficult for him to continue with Team USA. But those who have watched Fredette over the years know he's not someone who gives up easily.
