Skip Bayless Gets Stark Warning That 'His Run Is Over'

    By Shane Shoemaker,

Skip Bayless ended what was an eight-year run with Fox Sports and FS1 last Friday with his last appearance on Undisputed , the show he helped create. The question is, what's next for the 72-year-old?

Bayless has been a staple of sports talk media for years now. Whether incessantly talking about his Dallas Cowboys or giving his outrageous, unsolicited, eye-rolling hot takes, he has undoubtedly caught the attention of sports fans over the years.

Not long after the show ended on Friday, Bayless sent out a tweet addressing his departure. He said, “Today was my last show on Undisputed . I’m leaving FS1. I’ve been planning to pursue other opportunities for several months. I had a great 8-year run with a lot of great people at FOX, but now I’m excited for what’s coming up. Stay tuned.”

That's obviously pretty vague, but it does seem that he has something up his sleeve. He could do like many sports talk media members now and start his own podcast/YouTube show, like former Undisputed co-host Shannon Sharpe has with Club Shay Shay . However, some believe there just isn't a market for Bayless to thrive in any longer.

Michael McCarthy at Front Office Sports reports that one of his sources told him , “This is a tough spot for Skip. His run is over.”

The sports media world is getting younger. Sports fans are now flocking to guys like ESPN's Pat McAfee (37) or FS1's Nick Wright (39), who is actually rumored to be a favorite to take over Bayless' position on Undisputed .

Whether or not Bayless' appearance on Friday was the final time we'll see him on live television, having absurd, asinine debates with someone, it's undeniable that the impact he had on sports talk television can't be measured. He's been a pioneer for the business.
