    Tuscarawas County YMCA awards scholarship to 13 students

    DOVER – The Tuscarawas County YMCA has awarded scholarships totaling $14,700 to 13 area students for the 2024-25 school year, through the Thomas J. Patton Scholarship Fund. Recipients are:

    • Audrey Kinsey, a 2024 graduate of New Philadelphia High School, was active in band, National Honor Society, and the Science Leadership Club and is a YMCA staff member and volunteer. She will major in integrated social studies at Kent State University-Tuscarawas.
    • Estela Mejia Sica, a 2024 graduate of Dover High School and Buckeye Career Center, was a BCC Ambassador and active in the Drug-Free Club of America. She is a YMCA staff member, volunteer, and Hispanic Heritage Celebration Committee member. She will major in nursing at Kent State University.
    • Sophia Myers, a 2024 graduate of New Philadelphia High School, was active in volleyball and Junior Honor Society. She is a YMCA member. She will major in nursing at Kent State University.
    • Nathan Pugh, a 2024 graduate of Tuscarawas Central Catholic High School, was active in soccer, music, football and track. He is a YMCA member. He will major in marketing and business at Kent State University.
    • James Sedlock, a 2024 graduate of Tuscarawas Central Catholic High School, was active in football, baseball, mock trial and chess club. He was a YMCA volunteer. He will major in actuarial science at Walsh University.
    • Taylor Starkey, a 2021 graduate of Strasburg High School and Buckeye Career Center, was active in golf and cheerleading. She is a YMCA member and volunteer. She is majoring in respiratory care at Stark State College.
    • Kadence Stutz, a 2023 graduate of Tuscarawas Valley High School, was prom queen and active in soccer, cross country, basketball and softball. She is a YMCA member. She is majoring in early childhood education at Kent State University-Tuscarawas.
    • Kaitlyn Armstrong of New Philadelphia was awarded a second-year scholarship. She is majoring in psychology at Kent State University.
    • Samantha Courtney of New Philadelphia was awarded a second-year scholarship. She is majoring in criminology at Kent State University.
    • Bailey Eddleman of Dennison was awarded a second-year scholarship. Bailey is majoring in speech pathology at Wilmington College.
    • Edith Quiroz of New Philadelphia was awarded a second-year scholarship. She will be attending the University of Akron with an undecided medical major.
    • Kasey Ruegsegger of Dover was awarded a second-year scholarship. He is majoring in business analytics at Kent State University.
    • Alicia Sica-Calel of New Philadelphia was awarded a second-year scholarship. She will be attending the University of Akron, majoring in criminology.The scholarship fund was established in 1989 to honor Patton’s 40-plus years of service to the community through his work and leadership at the Tuscarawas County YMCA.
