Gospel singer Kierra Sheard has defended fellow gospel artist Kirk Franklin, who recently faced criticism for his stage attire. Sheard expressed her disappointment in those who judged Franklin based on his appearance, describing them as shallow.

Conservative Christians are criticizing gospel artist Kirk Franklin for flexing his underwear while ministering in a t-shirt and shorts on stage.

Many people expressed dissatisfaction with what they saw as a lack of modesty and the apparent self-centered nature of his performance, concluding that it reflected his struggling Christian life.

Kierra Sheard questioned the critics’ focus on Franklin’s clothing choices, claiming it overshadowed his musical talent and spiritual message.

“I think that the world can be hard on us. However, it comes with the cross. You know, we just walk in and do our thing. I like Uncle Kirk. I think that we can’t let a wardrobe moment change the shift in our minds about who he has been to us,” Sheard began.

The singer emphasized the importance of substance over style, claiming that Franklin’s contributions to gospel music outweigh any concerns about his clothing choices.

She continued, “I’ve called Uncle Kirk and said, ‘Uncle Kirk, I’ve got a question, and I need a mentoring moment. ‘And he’s poured into me. So if we’re that shallow for wardrobe to speak into who we are at the heart and in the mind, then I think that says something about the person who is judging. That’s what I would like to say.”

Sheard’s defense of Franklin has sparked more debate about the importance of appearance in the gospel music industry and the expectations placed on its artists.

Most fans agreed with her and pointed out that the saggy pants were probably not intentional but just a wardrobe malfunction.

“She answered that perfectly. That man ain’t sagging on purpose. Folks be quick to pass judgment,” a user wrote.

Another added, “Some people are a burger away from not fitting into their outfits, so I don’t think judgments should be passed.”

Someone else pointed out, “People need to get a life, and I think that will take care of everything.”
