Team USA is showing no signs of slowing down in the 2024 Paris Olympics. The United States women’s basketball squad collected another dominant victory on Sunday, as Jackie Young and company brought Germany down, 87-68.
Despite getting used as a punching bag by Team USA, Germany is headed to the quarterfinals where it will be meeting host country France.
Germany's head coach, Lisa Thomaidis, thinks that the loss to Team USA has sharpened her team for what she believes is Germany women’s basketball’s “most important game” in history.
"The next game is the most important one ever in the history of German women's basketball. So [t]hat is where we are focused. Every time you play against the US, you need to measure yourself and learn from the experience and that is going to help you next time. You always learn more when you lose than when you win."
Against Team USA, Germany was led by Dallas Wings star Satou Sabally, who produced 15 points to go with five rebounds and two assists.
Meanwhile, Alexis Peterson and Leonie Fiebich scored 14 and 10 points, respectively, for Germany, which finished group play with two wins.
Team USA, on the other hand, was paced by Young, who erupted for 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the floor.
