In a surprising turn of events, U.S. Olympic gymnasts Simone Biles and Suni Lee faced unexpected challenges during the balance beam finals on Monday. Both athletes, known for their stellar performances, fell off the apparatus, leaving fans and analysts in shock.

Biles concluded the event in fifth place with a score of 13.100, slightly ahead of Lee, who also scored 13.100 but had a lower execution score of 6.900 compared to Biles' 7.200.

Alice D'Amato of Italy won gold.

Lee competed second and got off to a strong start, but she faltered on a landing during one of her flips. She stumbled backward, straddled the bar, and ultimately fell off. Lee quickly remounted and completed her routine, finishing with a score of 13.100.

Biles, who went seventh out of eight gymnasts, initially appeared steady but saw a flip result in her tumbling off the beam. After getting back on and closing out the routine in style, the judges awarded her a score of 13.100 following a prolonged evaluation, placing her in fifth.

Fans all over social media were stunned by Biles and Lee's performances, given their record of excellence and dominance so far at the Paris Olympics.

"What a strange morning that almost everyone on the beam falls," said one fan.

"A wild beam final - half of the gymnasts fell, including Biles + Lee. Then audible shock at the arena when Rebeca Andrade's final score placed her in 4th. Italy's Alice D'Amato takes gold with 14.366 - falling to her knees in tears. No medals for the big hitter," explained another fan.

"Somebody paid somebody to do something to that beam…. Ain’t no way Suni, Simone and Rebecca!????" a fan commented.

"I can’t believe Simone Biles fell. Good for Italy though," commented another.
