The Dallas Cowboys have the pieces in place to have one of the better defenses in the NFL during the 2024 season. Leading the way are two of their young stars, edge rusher Micah Parsons and cornerback Trevon Diggs.

Parsons has already cemented himself as one of the premier pass rushers in the league. He has recorded 13+ sacks in all three seasons of his career, earning a Pro Bowl and All-Pro spot each time.

The No. 12 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Micah Parsons has set himself up for a massive payday. That kind of raise has already occurred for Diggs.

A second-round pick, No. 51 overall in the 2020 NFL Draft out of Alabama, Trevon Diggs signed his lucrative extension during the 2023 offseason. He signed a five-year, $97 million extension that made him the fifth highest-paid cornerback in the league.

That number tied Marshon Lattimore of the New Orleans Saints . Only Jaire Alexander, Jalen Ramsey and Marlon Humphrey were ahead of Diggs and Lattimore at the time of signing.

Unfortunately for Trevon Diggs, the first season of that contract was a washout. He was injured in the second game of the season and ended up not getting back on the field because of a torn ACL.

Healthy and ready to contribute again in 2024, Diggs has some extra motivation heading into the season. He was not voted among the top 10 cornerbacks in a piece shared by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler using votes from NFL executives, coaches and scouts.

Trevon Diggs was mentioned as an honorable mention, but Micah Parsons doesn’t believe that is enough. He recently spoke about how motivated his Cowboys teammate is as he looks to prove all his doubters wrong.

“I think you guys made him a little mad,” Micah Parsons said to reporters . “I ain’t never seen Trevon do some of the things he’s doing now. The work he’s putting in, the dedication, coming into meetings, absorbing as much knowledge, handling walkthroughs, how serious he is, how committed he is just to getting back.

“I can’t wait to see him back on the field. When you’ve got a playmaker like that, a lockdown corner, definitely a top-10 corner in the league, without a doubt. I just can’t wait. You can tell he misses it. He comes up to me every day, ‘Just wait until I get back.’”

Removed from the physically unable to perform list last week, Trevon Diggs is ready to go. He made the Pro Bowl in two straight seasons before the injury and led the NFL with 11 interceptions during the 2021 campaign.

He will be locking down the secondary while Micah Parsons will be looking to make his job easier getting after the pass rush. They are two key pieces to the Cowboys having a successful campaign on the defensive side of the ball.
