Garrett Wilson compliments New York Jets rookie receiver's style

New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson can understand how rookie Malachi Corley got his nickname.

Tabbed as the "YAC King" for his ability to gain yards after the catch for Western Kentucky, Corley possesses a running style unique to receivers.

"Once he has the ball on his hands, he's truly like a running back — hard to tackle, knows exactly where to go," said Wilson during a guest appearance on the Up & Adams show, which visited the Jets' facility for the team's July 31 padded practice.

Corley, the No. 65 overall draft choice, was apparently in the offense's plans from the jump, but has seen an increase in practice reps with second-year slot receiver Xavier Gipson sidelined due to a leg injury . With show host Kay Adams looking on in Florham Park, Corley laid out to make a beautiful touchdown catch on a pass from Aaron Rodgers. In a highlight clip shared by the Jets on social media, the rookie managed to maintain possession while coming down in bounds.

"He had a great day. He's a brute. He can do it all. Today, he made some great plays," said Wilson.

Corley totaled 22 touchdown receptions over his final two collegiate campaigns, earning back-to-back All-Conference USA First Team honors.

"He's just got the right makeup — great head on his shoulders, willing to work, takes coaching. When you see a guy like that you know they're gonna be successful and I'm just glad he's on our team," said Wilson, who has two 1,000-yard receiving seasons in two years as a pro.

Corley has the opportunity to win an important role as a primary slot option and he appears to be taking advantage.
