‘Creating Inappropriate Atmosphere’ Got Swimmer Kicked Out Of Olympic Village

It has not been a banner week for Paraguayan swimmer Luana Alonso.
The 20-year-old failed to advance past her heat and reach the semifinals of the women’s 100m butterfly last week (falling just 0.24 seconds short) and she announced her retirement from swimming not long after in an Instagram post, but that’s not even the most notable news she’s made lately.
Alonso drew the ire of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee after sneaking out to visit Disney Land instead of sticking around to support her teammates in their remaining events, which reportedly got her kicked out of the Olympic Village.
“Her presence is creating an inappropriate atmosphere within Team Paraguay,” Paraguayan Olympic Committee head Larissa Schaerer said in a statement , via The Sun. “We thank her for proceeding as instructed, as it was of her own free will that she did not spend the night in the Athletes' Village.”
Alonso reportedly planned to stay until the Olympic Games conclude on Aug. 11 but the Daily Mail reported the POC decided it was a privilege that she should no longer have.
Despite holding multiple Paraguayan records in the butterfly event, Alonso failed to medal in the event in both the 2024 and 2020 Olympics.
In addition to her decorated Paraguayan career, Alonso swam for a season at Virginia Tech before transferring to SMU.
