Police are investigating a fatal crash in Oneida County between a car and motorcycle on Thursday, according to the New York State Police.
On Thursday, Aug. 1 at around 5:27 p.m., State Police responded to a reported crash on state Route 26 in the town of Ava. An investigation revealed that Tyler L. Carnell, 34, of Lee Center, was operating a 1997 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle and collided with a 2017 Hyundai Sonata operated by Mary E. Peck, 61, of Rome.
According to police, the Sonata and the motorcycle were both traveling north on Route 26 when the Sonata's operator attempted to make a left-hand turn into a driveway. The motorcycle's operator attempted to overtake and pass the Hyundai in the left-hand lane and collided with the vehicle making the left turn into the driveway.
Carnell was ejected from his motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene. Peck was transported to Rome Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
