During a guest apperance on The View comedian Joy Behar fired off on former Seinfeld star Michael Richards as he attempted to explain his infamous racial tirade that shunned him from from Hollywood .

As the 75-year-old actor promoted his new memoir Entrances and Exits on the talk show, he opened up about his experience with cancel culture and the famous racial remarks that led to his early exit from the comedy scene. During the chat in the rerun episode, The View co-host Joy called out Michael as he attempted to justify the remarks.

Sunny Hustin began the conversation as she said to Michael: "I'm so happy that you're here and let me just start by saying I don't believe in cancel culture. I believe in consequence culture and you've paid a lot of consequences, so we understand that. So let's go to your infamous racial tirade on stage at the Laugh Factory back in 2006. We all saw that, it went viral and you were being heckled by some black audience members and you responded with racial slurs. What happened?"

Reflecting on the moment, Michael said: "Well I'm on stage with a microphone in my hand doing an act and breaking in material. It's late at night and a man in the audience made an announcement that I'm not funny. He doesn't think I'm very funny and I came back - now first I must say - I'm not a normal man [laughs] I'm a comedian."

He continued: "There's a lot of eccentricity going on in my kind of comedy and certainly I could have never created a character like Kramer without being slightly touched. So I went into character and I was in a comedy club environment where the N word was used a lot and I decided I would let it loose."

Joy, a former stand-up comedian herself, then cut him off as she said: "It's not used anymore. Those days are over." To which Michael jokingly replied: "For me they certainly are, yeah."

Michael then went on to add that he was "making war on my fellow man" that night at the Laugh Factory when he decided to use a racial slur. After the incident, Michael admitted that he "cancelled himself out" and decided to step away from the spotlight for the next decade to focus on himself and managing his anger.
