The New England Patriots collectively boast one of the more talented and quality cornerback rooms in the entire National Football League .

With solid pieces such as Jonathan Jones and Marcus Jones along with depth pieces including Marco Wilson and Isaiah Bolden , it's a good spot for the room to be in. Of course, things are led by 2023 first-round pick Christian Gonzalez , who was performing like one of the best in the league just four weeks into his rookie year before he was lost for the season due to a shoulder injury.

Head coach Jerod Mayo was asked about the room as a whole and expressed that he is satisfied with where the group is at.

"We feel pretty good at this time. Once again, those guys have to earn a role on this team. And it's not really just defense. You want your corners to be able to play special teams as well, so the battles will continue," Mayo said , adding that just because Gonzalez is the most talented on paper doesn't mean he won't have to work for it. "Even with [Gonzalez], he has to go out here each and every day and push it. I always tell these guys that success is rented and not owned, and the rent is due every day, and that applies to Gonzo as well."

Before the Week 4 injury, Gonzalez shut down some of the best wide receivers in football including A.J. Brown , Tyreek Hill , and Garrett Wilson . As a result of his strong play, he was named the league's Defensive Rookie of the Month last September.

If he can put it together for a full season and stay healthy, the sky is the limit for how special of a season he could have.
