After securing a national championship at Michigan, Jim Harbaugh bolted (pardon the pun) for the NFL and the Los Angeles Chargers . That move was — and likely always will — be scrutinized.
Was Harbaugh leaving the firestorm in Michigan stemming from the sign-stealing situation involving former Michigan staffer Connor Stalions? Depending on whose side you're on, many football fans believe the answer to that question is a resounding yes.
However, no connection was ever found between Harbaugh and the sign-stealing that was going on with Stalions. Despite that, the Big Ten Conference chose to suspend Harbaugh for the final three regular-season games of the 2023 season.
Jim Harbaugh: "Attacking with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind"
Harbaugh was kept from discussing the matter last year as it was an ongoing investigation. However, on Monday, he broke his silence on the matter with a very stern, matter-of-fact statement:
Harbaugh not only strongly denied complicity, but stated he would not apologize for anything that went on within that scandal. He ended with perhaps the quote of the year. "So for me... it's back to work, attacking with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind."
Harbaugh has left Michigan behind him and will be focused on turning the Chargers around. But the situation has not left Michigan and probably won't for some time as recent reports suggest that the school and perhaps even current head coach Sherrone Moore could still face penalties.
