Zac Efron's recent stint in hospital was due to a diving mishap that led to water entering his lungs , according to reports.
The 17 Again star has opened up about the frightening experience he had in a swimming pool in Ibiza, which resulted in him being hospitalized last week. The Hollywood star reassured his fans on Instagram, stating he's "happy and healthy" after the incident.
While soaking up the sun in Ibiza, the Baywatch actor - who's face has been dubbed unrecognizable by fans - faced an emergency during a dip in his villa's pool , which saw him rushed to the hospital. He was released the next morning.
Reports have emerged claiming Zac was swimming with friends in the early hours of Saturday morning in Ibiza when he took the plunge. TMZ reports that it was "very early Saturday morning in Ibiza when he decided to take a dive" and the star "showed signs of distress" leading security to assist him out of the water.

Insiders informed the US outlet that "Zac was momentarily dazed and he was taken to a hospital as a precautionary measure". At the hospital, Zac is said to have undergone a chest X-ray to ensure all the water was expelled from his lungs.
He was given the all-clear to leave within a few hours but chose to stay longer due to paparazzi outside.
Zac took to social media to calm his concerned fans, announcing that he's "happy and healthy" after a "minor" accident during a swim. Speaking out after the incident, Zac has returned to his vigorous workouts.
Showing off his muscles in an Instagram Story, he was seen on a Pilates ball lifting weights and captioned it: "Happy and healthy - thanks for the well wishes."
The star of 'The Iron Claw' had previously suffered from a horrific injury that shattered his jaw. In 2022, the high-profile star discussed with Men's Health in their October edition how an at-home fall while wearing socks resulted in him hitting his jaw on the corner of a fountain, knocking himself unconscious and leaving his "chin bone" hanging off his face.
As he recovered from this traumatic event, Zac noticed an unusual increase in the size of his facial muscles and turned to a physical therapist for guidance. He observed: "The masseters just grew. They just got really, really big."
For those who might not be familiar, the masseter muscle is essential for chewing and helps define the jawline.
Before Zac could squash the rampant speculation about having undergone plastic surgery, the rumor mill was already abuzz with conjectures. Nevertheless, the celebrated actor cleared the air in a frank conversation with Entertainment Tonight, revealing that he was unaware of the rumors until his mother mentioned them to him.
"My mom told me. I never really read the internet, so, I don't really care," Zac remarked, dismissing the speculation. "It was funny. It sucks. I almost died, but we're good," he added, minimizing the seriousness of his previous injury.
