Olympic swimmer Luana Alonso has spoken out after being controversially sent back from Paris amid accusations of creating an 'inappropriate environment'.

The 20-year-old Paraguay native faced criticism for allegedly distracting her peers with scant attire during social activities . Alonso, who is studying in the US, took to Instagram to refute these claims post-return.

On her popular Instagram page , she struck back at the rumors, labeling them as 'lies', yet opted not to release a formal statement.

Her Instagram post stated: "I just wanted to clarify that I was never kicked out or expelled from anywhere, please stop spreading false information. I don't want to make any statement but I'm not going to let lies affect me either."

Larissa Schaerer, leader of the COP (Paraguayan Olympic Committee), had earlier released a brief statement regarding Alonso's conduct.

The statement said: "Her presence is creating an inappropriate atmosphere within Team Paraguay. We thank her for proceeding as instructed, as it was of her own free will that she did not spend the night in the Athletes' Village."

After finishing sixth in the 100m butterfly at the games, trailing Georgia's Ana Nizharadze by only 0.24 seconds, Alonso bowed out of the competition. Additionally, she announced her withdrawal from competitive swimming via an Instagram post.

Alonso's Instagram farewell read: "It's official now! I'm retiring from swimming, thank you all so much for the support! Sorry Paraguay, I only have to thank you."

The Paris Olympics marked her second appearance at the games, having previously represented Paraguay in 2020 when she was just 17.

In addition to the Olympics, she has also competed at the World Aquatics Championships in Budapest, Hungary and the South American Games in Asuncion, Paraguay in 2022.
