Liverpool could be getting closer to its first signing of the summer, with reports suggesting the Reds are ‘moving ahead’ for a specialist No.6 .

With just over three weeks remaining in the transfer window, Liverpool is still yet to make a signing. Arne Slot though will soon have the whole of his current squad together for the first time as they return from their tour of the United States.

Slot has hinted signings could be on the way soon , while sporting director Richard Hughes predicted earlier in the summer that a flurry of signings could emerge this month. It seems the first of those is now in the works.

According to The Athletic , Liverpool has now identified a target in the No.6 position, and is pursuing a specialist in that role from outside of the Premier League .

Slot has tried a few players out in the position so far this summer, with Wataru Endo , Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch having all been tested in pre-season. It seems though he has now decided some fresh blood is needed.

No names are mentioned, although it is claimed that Liverpool is moving ahead with a signing, suggesting it might not be too long before a new face arrives.

Speaking about the lack of signings so far earlier this week, Slot said: "The bar is really high for new signings because we have so many good players so it is not so easy to first find a player to meet those standards and then is he available?

"Then we have to find an agreement with them, so it is not always easy to find a player who can help us but Richard is working hard on it and let's see what comes from this."

Addressing the No.6 position specifically, Slot added: "I think Ryan did really well in that position today and we have other options as well.

"The best way to judge it is when we have all the players back and we still haven't but a club like Liverpool always keeps its eye open to see what's available, players that can strengthen the squad and that is what we - Richard mostly - but me as well are looking to do but that is not particular to one position.

"We constantly evaluate the squad where can we do something and what do we have."

Liverpool.com says: There can’t be much doubt that the No.6 role is the priority for Liverpool, especially with Endo seemingly not taking Slot’s fancy so far this summer. Hopefully we won’t have to wait too long to find out who this mystery target is.
