Despite the fact that the USA Basketball women's national team is well on its way to winning a record 12th Olympic medal, the squad has still received a fair amount of criticism over their performances in the group stage of the tournament.

The Americans went 3-0 in the opening round, defeating Japan, Belgium, and Germany by an average margin of 19.3 points. Team USA dominated their opponents despite the shooting struggles of their starting backcourt.

In three games played, Diana Taurasi and Chelsea Gray have combined for a grand total of just four points. The pair shot 2-of-16 overall, which unsurprisingly, drew the ire of more than a few supporters out there.

WNBA legend Rebecca Lobo has spoken out about the criticism as the Hall of Famer came to Taurasi and Gray's defense.

"The women’s team is 3-0. Dee and Gray’s greatest value and experience will be felt in a close game during the medal rounds," Lobo said in response to a tweet from StatMamba that highlights Taurasi and Grey's shooting woes.

As Lobo pointed out, the bottom line here is that Team USA has gone undefeated in three games played in Paris. Moreover, Taurasi and Gray bring so much more to the table than just their shooting.

There's no denying that these two superstar guards have left a lot to be desired thus far, but it's also a fact that, as Lobo said, their experience will be invaluable in the next stage of the competition.

Team USA is now just three wins away from another gold-medal finish, starting with a quarterfinal showdown against Nigeria on Wednesday.
