Jamie Carragher agrees with Arne Slot on Liverpool's biggest problem in transfer window

Former Reds star Jamie Carragher reckons Arne Slot and Liverpool are going about their business right when it comes to the summer transfer market .

Despite the Premier League season starting in under two weeks time, Liverpool has yet to make a summer signing to bolster Slot's squad ahead of their clash against newly promoted Ipswich Town on August 17 at Portman Road. There have been a host of players linked with a move to Anfield this summer but nothing concrete has emerged.

However, the lack of activity when it comes to incoming signings is not something Reds supporters should worry about in the eyes of former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher. The former England international turned Sky Sports pundit believes the Reds are going about their business in the correct manner, adding fans should trust Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes to find the right players to bring in for the right price, similar to how the former helped build Jurgen Klopp's squad in the past.

"No, they're [fans] not right to be concerned. You've got to trust the club," Carragher told SPORTbible when asked about supporter frustration over signings.

"What this club has done with transfer fees over the last eight to 10 years has been phenomenal. We've got the structure back at the club that everybody wanted, trust them, let them do their job.

"Liverpool are a very good team so it's not easy to go and find players who are better than what you've got. That's the only reason you should be bringing players in anyway and you've also got a manager who doesn't know the squad yet either.

"I could probably understand the frustration if Jurgen Klopp was still the manager because we want to get our business done early, he knows the squad better than anyone and knows exactly what we need. Arne Slot will be listening to Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes but you want to see things with your own eyes, all the players aren't even back yet. I'm not worried about it."

And Carragher's comments echo the thoughts of Slot, who earlier this week said : " "The bar is really high for new signings because we have so many good players so it is not so easy to first find a player to meet those standards and then is he available?

"Then we have to find an agreement with them, so it is not always easy to find a player who can help us but Richard is working hard on it and let's see what comes from this."

Liverpool.com says: While Liverpool has in the past reaped the rewards of operating patiently in the transfer market, this summer might be the exception to the rule. The 2024/25 season is a particularly important one following Klopp's departure, especially if Liverpool want to try and convince Trent Alexander-Arnold to ink a new long-term deal at Anfield.

"he England international is out of contract next summer and is reportedly a target for Real Madrid. If the Reds want to ward off any interest from Spain for the 25-year-old, the best way they can do so is by enjoying as successful a season as possible, something which could be achieved by bringing in some new faces to their squad, specifically in the form of a top class defensive midfielder.
