Is Sha'Carri Richardson running the 200-meter? Why USA sprinter isn't in race at 2024 Olympics

    By Bryan Murphy,

Sha'Carri Richardson is one of the fastest women on the planet. The American sprint star was unable to compete in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics due to a suspension from a positive marijuana test , but she is taking center stage in Paris for the 2024 Olympics.

Entering the competition in Paris, Richardson was set to race in two events for the United States. So far, one is complete, as she earned silver in the women's 100-meter dash, losing to Saint Lucia's Julien Alfred for the gold medal.

Richardson also will be a part of the women's 4x100-meter relay team. That event is scheduled to take place this weekend, with the United States looking to get back the gold after falling to Jamaica in the Tokyo event.

So what does that mean for the 200-meter sprint? The 24-year-old won a bronze at the 2023 World Championship in the race, but she will not be going for a medal in the 200 in Paris.

Here is more on why Richardson won't be running the women's 200-meter dash.

Is Sha'Carri Richardson running the 200-meter?

Richardson will not be among those competing in the 200-meter event at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The American sprinter did not qualify in the event for Team USA at the U.S. Olympic trials earlier this year. Richardson finished fourth at the trials.

Gabby Thomas finished first for the United States, followed by Brittany Brown and McKenzie Long. All three are racing in the final of the sprint in Paris, giving the United States a possibility to sweep the medals in the 200-meter.
