    She wasn’t lovin’ it!

A TikTok user known as @KrissyTheFleeker shared her frustrating experience with a McDonald’s worker . She revealed that she was charged the price of a small drink just to get an empty cup for her ice cream cone to take home. Her tense exchange with the fast-food employee ignited a heated debate in the comments section about whether McDonald’s should charge customers for an empty cup.

In Krissy’s video, shared July 24, she expresses frustration over being charged $1.59 for an empty cup and demands a receipt to understand the cost.

“Let me get a receipt so I can show people! Is she serious?” the pissed off influencer said. “I want to know where McDonald’s is charging people $1.59 for a fucking cup with nothing in it.”

Upon discovering that she was charged for a small Coke to get an empty cup for her ice cream cone, Krissy’s frustration quickly escalated to anger, as she felt deceived. She noted that this was a new experience for her, as she had never encountered a problem receiving a free cup before. Krissy said she felt the practice was a way for McDonald’s to charge extra for items like cups or ice cream cones without clear justification.

She demanded a refund, and later in the video, another McDonald’s employee intervened to explain the situation. According to the second staff member, charging for the empty cup is actually company policy, and they supposedly include this charge in the description of every item on the menu.

Social media users react to Krissy’s video.

That explanation wasn’t enough for Krissy. In the caption, the TikTok star pondered why the fast food chain would charge customers for an empty cup or at least lower their price point to 25 cents for those in need of one. The sentiment pulled in mixed reactions from her followers.

A few TikTok netizens who worked at popular fast food chains in the comments section noted that there is no option on the register to charge customers for just the cup.

“ I work at Wendy’s and there’s no cup option so we have to charge for the soda. At my Wendy’s we don’t do water cups. You have to pay for the cup!” wrote one person.

Another fast food chain employee mentioned that charging customers the price of a small drink was a method used to track drink inventory as many fast food chains need to factor in the money they spend on buying the cups.

“They don’t count liquid ounces. They count cups,” the user added. “Imagine if cups were free, everybody would just go to McDonald’s for endless cups for parties and to keep at home.”

One person commented that while they are not defending the employees, they understand the situation from a worker’s perspective. They explained that although their franchise used to provide cups for free, as of 2024, they are now required to charge 25 cents for them. However, the exact amount can vary based on the franchise owner’s discretion.

“Owners do have the right to charge whatever so either the employee could honestly be terrible but they also could be instructed to actually charge $1.59 hoping you won’t complain.”

Still, several users sided with Krissy arguing that the item should have been given free of charge .

“Nah, I used to work at McDonald’s. A water cup is free and they could’ve put the cone in a lil sundae cup FOR THE FREE,” wrote one commenter.

This is an interesting debate. Thoughts?
