Simone Biles has responded after she was criticized for bowing down to Rebeca Andrade - who bested her to winning the gold medal on Monday - with Baltimore Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey brandishing her actions as 'disgusting'.

Biles' Olympics did not end as she would have hoped, after she finished in a disappointed fifth place in the balance beam before being upset by Andrade, who won gold ahead of her on the floor - which is seen as Biles' strongest event.

After both she and compatriot Jordan Chiles missed out on gold, they both agreed to bow down to her on the podium as they received their silver and bronze respective medals, in a showing of support to the Brazilian for her victory - after he brutal injury history, coming back from three ACL tears.

All-Pro cornerback Humphrey reshared the video on social media, writing: "This is literally disgusting," before going on to joke that he was receiving abuse from Brazilians on Instagram.

Biles has since defended her decision to bow down, telling the TODAY show: "I think it's all about sportsmanship, and we don't care whether we win or lose. We're always going to keep a good face and support our competitors because they've worked just as hard as we have for that moment.

"You have to give them their flowers and that's exactly what me and Jordan were doing. We were so happy for her. She deserved it, she had the best floor routine of the day, and of the Olympics."

Humphrey has been roundly criticized for his stance, with the Ravens star defensive back never afraid to share his opinions on his X account.

Biles' Paris Olympics is now over, adding four more medals to her cabinet - taking her total count to 11. The 27-year-old has admitted that this Olympics might have been her last, but left the door open to a sensational return in Los Angeles in four years time.

She told reporters: "You know, you never say never. The next Olympics is on home turf. So you just never know... But I am getting really old." Biles' husband, Jonathan Owens, was given the greenlight to leave Chicago Bears training camp to see her in Paris - and has now returned to the team and expected to feature this weekend.
