Caitlin Clark is starting to create some distance from Angel Reese in the WNBA Rookie of the Year race, a new update shows.

Bleacher Report's Sara Civian published midseason awards on August 6, giving the Rookie of the Year nod to the Indiana Fever guard. Civian wrote that while Reese had a hotter start to her WNBA season, Clark is on an "astronomical trajectory" that has now left her as the "standalone front-runner at the close of the first half."

Clark is averaging 8.2 assists per game and is on pace to break the rookie record of 7.5 per game set by Ticha Penicheiro in 1998, Civian wrote.

While Civian wrote that it could continue to be a close race down the final stretch, she expects Clark to keep a hold on the award.

"I'm sure Reese, her continued consistency, and her increased willingness to shoot from range will continue to make the Rookie of the Year conversation interesting in the second half, but Clark has been pulling away recently," Civian wrote.
