Serbia knew they were going to need all hands on deck if they were to beat a tough opponent in Australia during the quarterfinals of the Paris Olympics.
And that they did. It took an overtime period to see who would emerge victorious, but it indeed turned out to be the Serbs as they took down the Aussies in a 95-90 victory that saw a 24-point comeback from Serbia and clutch shots from both sides.
Serbia had an 82-80 lead near the end of regulation, but Patty Mills had other plans in mind when he knocked down a tough jumper with two seconds left to force overtime.
Despite his and Josh Giddey's efforts, combining for 51 pints throughout the game, Serbia outscored Australia 13-8 in the overtime period to advance to the semifinals. Jokic unsurprisingly turned out to be the deciding factor.
Jokic scored four points in overtime, as his final shot with 25 seconds remaining ended up being the last converted attempt from either side.
Jokic finished with a double-double performance of 21 points and 14 rebounds. He also added eight assists as he shot 9-of-18 from the field.
Serbia helped him plenty on the offensive side of the ball. Five players aside from Jokic scored in double-digits, with the most notable being Bogdan Bogdanovic as he put up 16 points, six assists, and five rebounds including two free throws near the end of the overtime period to provide his team enough distance from Australia.
Fans took to social media to praise Jokic's performance, who is averaging 19.3 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 7.3 assists per game in the Olympics. He is currently in the top three in points, rebounds, assists, and blocks.
