Olympics 200-meter women's final results: USA's Gabby Thomas cruises to gold ahead of Julien Alfred, Brittany Brown

Julien Alfred already took down one favored American opponent in Paris. Can she do it again on Tuesday?

USA's Gabrielle Thomas has long been the odds-on favorite in the women's 200-meter, but Alfred's blazing speed showcased in the 100-meter final was a reminder that Thomas might not be able to coast to gold. To her credit, though, Thomas impressed in the semifinals on Monday by leading the pack with a time of 21.86 seconds.

It would be surprising if anyone else crossed the finish line first, though Nigeria's Favour Ofili finished just behind Alfred in the semifinals and has her sights set on a medal.

Missing from the final will be Sha'Carri Richardson, who narrowly fell short of qualifying for the 200-meter at the Olympic trials in June. Team USA's hopes instead rest on Thomas, who won won bronze in the event in Tokyo three years ago.
