Romanian gymnast Ana Barbosu, who was competing in the Paris 2024 Olympics , was left heartbroken after her first Olympic medal was taken away following an inquiry by Team USA . The 18-year-old initially finished third in the women's floor final, ahead of fellow Romanian Sabrina Voinea and American Jordan Chiles .

Chiles was given a score of 13.666, sparking celebrations from Barbosu. However, her joy was short-lived as Team USA lodged an inquiry about Chiles' score , believing it to be incorrect.

After a review, Chiles' score was revised when the judges increased the difficulty level of her routine from 5.8 to the correct 5.9. This adjustment pushed Chiles' score from being 0.34 points behind Barbosu to a final score of 13.766 0.066 points ahead of the young Romanian.

As a result, Chiles moved into the medal positions, behind fellow American Simone Biles in second place and Brazil's Rebeca Andrade, who took gold. While Chiles couldn't contain her tears of joy , the camera showed a devastated Barbosu being comforted by her team.

Barbosu had already started celebrating and was seen posing with the Romanian flag before she was informed of her demotion from the podium. The six-time Junior European Championship gold medallist was competing in her first Olympics and had previously finished 23rd in the all-around final the previous week.

Jordan Chiles secured her first Olympic medal in an individual event, claiming bronze alongside Simone Biles' silver and Rebeca Andrade's gold. This achievement is particularly poignant for Chiles, who has overcome immense personal loss, including the passing of her aunt and grandfather in 2023.

Chiles revealed: "When I came back, after losing my grandpa. I was like, 'I don't think my grandpa would want me to quit right now," "He would be very disappointed in me if I was just like, you know what, I'm done.'"

She added: "With having him in my mind, in my heart, and even my aunt, I was like, you know what, I'm just going to continue my dream and continue to push as hard as I can."

Andrade's gold medal is her first at this year's games, following her loss to Biles and Team USA in the all-around competition. The 25 year old has made history by becoming the only gymnast to outdo Biles in the floor exercise final.

Biles' performance was hindered by stepping out of bounds twice during landings, ultimately costing her the top spot.

In a heartwarming display of Olympic spirit, Biles and Chiles celebrated their medals by bowing to Andrade on the podium. As the Brazilian champion stood with her arms raised, the American duo knelt and bowed in recognition of her achievement.
