Rebecca Budig joined The Bold and the Beautiful cast in a dramatic on-screen twist .

The daytime television veteran took over the role of Dr. Taylor Hayes after Krista Allen 's 2023 exit. Taylor made her return to the plot by giving her daughter, Steffy, a phone call as she peered out at Ridge and Brooke kissing. The doctor hid from a distance with her head veiled. She explained to Steffy, who said she'd love to see her mother, that she was in Europe.

Taylor said: "That's why I'm calling, to tell you I miss you and I'm coming home ... That's right, honey, mama's coming home."

Fans weren't exactly thrilled by the move. They were aware that Taylor would be returning to the show after a casting call was sent out. However, the details of who would be filling the role have been kept under wraps until now. A fan explained: "This is what I thought would happen when I saw the casting call and the age range. Good grief."

Age was a huge reason that fans were turned off from the casting chioce. "Krista Allen already didn’t look old enough to have 2 grown kids in their 30s & a grandma. Rebecca Budig younger than her. Next Taylor gonna be younger than Steffy," wrote a fan. Another added: "Are they really having a generation or two! younger, Rebecca Budig as Taylor? The age difference between her, Brooke and Ridge…and Jacqui and Rebecca look the same age! Dying!"

While plenty of people have followed Rebecca throughout her career, they were confident that this was the right move for her. The actress played Greenlee Smythe in All My Children until 2005 which sparked fans' love for her style. However, they'd rather her not get involved in this particular soap opera. A fan said: "The more I think about it, the angrier it makes me. Rebecca is one of my fave soap actresses and she and TK are so much fun together, but she's completely miscast as Taylor and the character is only going to be made into more of a fool."

Another fan pointed out the heigh difference Rebecca and Jacqueline MacInnes Wood, who plays Steffy, writing: "When Jacqueline towers over Rebecca due to their height difference, it’ll just highlight more how they are miscast as daughter and mother."
