The New England Patriots first preseason game is just two days away, and the team held their final open training camp practice on Tuesday.

The Brandon Aiyuk rumors that started on Monday night overshadowed things at the start, but there is plenty of stuff going on within the team.

Things between the Patriots and star linebacker Matthew Judon appeared to settle down after a lot of craziness and controversy over a few days of camp. However, something happened on Tuesday that raised some questions.

Here are all the takeaways from the latest practice, starting with Judon:

    1. What's going on with Judon (again)?

The situation between Judon and the team regarding his contract has been a very hot topic recently, and that isn't going away. Judon spoke with reporters on Monday about everything that happened, once again saying that he would play on his current deal even though he's not happy with it.

So after those comments, head coach Jerod Mayo was asked his thoughts. With that, he said he expected the linebacker to be a full participant on Tuesday.

“Judon is doing what he has to do,” Mayo said. “He’s out here every day. He’s in pads; he’ll be in pads today as well. He’s doing everything in the meeting rooms. Look, it was a hiccup, and I feel like we’re on the same page, and we’re moving forward.”

And all signs pointed to Mayo being right when Judon took the field in full pads. But during individual drills, he disappeared, and when he came back on the field, he didn't have his pads or helmet.

    2. The latest on Aiyuk

Monday night's news had everyone on the edge of their seat. And it kept many up throughout the night wondering if the New England Patriots could pull off a major move.

NBC Sports Bay Area's Matt Maiocco reported that the San Francisco 49ers "negotiated the frameworks of trades that would send wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk to the Cleveland Browns and the New England Patriots."

“Now, it is up to Aiyuk to determine if he will accept the contract terms from either of those franchises,“ he added.

Head coach Jerod Mayo came out and spoke with the media prior to Tuesday's training camp practice , and started the press conference addressing the rumors.

“I know what you guys want to know," he stated, "One thing I did learn from Bill is I don’t talk about players from other teams.”

    3. Ups and Downs for Baker

Even with the downs, Baker's impressive play during training camp has made him a near lock for the 53-man roster. But he is making mistakes, which is okay for any rookie.

Baker contributed to an interception on a ball from Drake Maye that bounced right off his hands and into the defense. But it was fellow rookie, cornerback Marcellas Dial Jr. who caught the ball.

On the other hand, we also have to talk about a highlight real touchdown catch he made. The rookie receiver caught a 15-yard pass in the end zone from Jacoby Brissett, but in order to grab it, he had to jump and extend. It had everyone impressed.

If he can keep these plays up, he will be quite the weapon for the Patriots this season.

    4. Additional Injuries on the Offensive Line

Starting guard Sidy Sow was missing from team drills on Tuesday, but it's not certain if this is injury related or not.

Rookie tackle Caedan Wallace also left the field at one point and went to the trainers’ shed. However, he came back out with his teammates soon after.

    5. Rain causes some issues

Instead of the typical 90+ degree weather that we have gotten used to during training camp, the weather dropped to 70 degrees with some steady rain.

Based on what happened, the Patriots needed this practice in the rain to exploit some of their weak areas. And most of it relied on how the ball was slipping out of the players hands.

Jacoby Brissett and Drake Maye both dropped the ball at different times, while Kevin Harris fumbled on a run. And then DT Trysten Hill strip-sacked Bailey Zappe.

    6. Quarterback Stats

    11v11s
    Jacoby Brissett : 13/19
    Drake Maye : 5/10, INT
    Bailey Zappe : 4/7
    Joe Milton : 2/2

    7v7s
    Jacoby Brissett : 1/4
    Drake Maye : 3/4
    Joe Milton : 2/4

Maye's struggles came in the two-minute drill, but during the drills before he had a solid day. His best pass of the day, and arguably all camp, came during 7v7s on a 10-yard pass to Kayshon Boutte over CB Alex Austin to the back right corner of the end zone.

    7. Ja'Whaun Bentley banged up

The veteran linebacker suffered a left elbow injury during practice and was with athletic trainers for a while. He eventually left the field and did not return to practice.
