“@kroger The worst shopping experience ever w/Kroger. POS [point of sale] not working right in the liquor store,” he wrote on X.

“Self check out freezing on customers. Made my way to one of the 3 registers open with a human to check out.

“Spend close to $200 and then stopped by security demanding my receipt.”

Kroger responded to the complaint on X .

“We apologize for any inconvenience,” the store said, adding that they would pass on the feedback to Leadership.

The angry shopper, however, did not seem to appreciate the apology.

“Thanks for treating paying customers like criminals.”

Kroger has come under fire from many angry customers in recent months.

Self-checkout issues, receipt checks, and alleged poor customer service have made shoppers increasingly unhappy.

Some Kroger stores have favored self-checkout kiosks over traditional cashiered lanes.

This has caused long lines and wait times for many, forcing shoppers to take out their anger on social media.

“Does anyone even work here anymore?” one shopper asked .

“Even the self-checkouts are having issues. People are backed up into the aisles waiting to check out,” another wrote .

Some customers have even threatened to take their business elsewhere if Kroger does not make changes to its checkout system.

“Kroger self-checkout stinks. If this is the future I’m headed to Publix,” a shopper said.

And this is not the only issue customers have with the retailer.

Many have also voiced their concerns about the in-store receipt checks.

Kroger shoppers can return items with or without a receipt.

All Kroger Co. Family of Stores can accept returns of items purchased at any location within 30 days of purchase.

    Returns with receipts:

    • Customers can use digital or paper receipts to get a refund
    • The refund will be returned in the same payment method the purchase was made. Either going back on a card or handed back in cash

    Returns without receipts:

    • Customers wanting to return more than $10 will receive a store merchandise gift card for the value
    • Customers who spent less than $10 will receive cash

The retailer announced it would be introducing receipt checks at six Kroger locations in the Cincinnati, Ohio area in May .

These measures were introduced to crack down on shoplifting.

However, many have argued there are more efficient ways to combat theft.

“If they want to be sure everything is rung up correctly, they should hire more cashiers,” one shopper said.

Others have claimed that the receipt checks are entirely inefficient.

“All they do it take your receipt and mark it with a sharpie,” a shopper said .

“They don’t check your bags to make sure it matches your purchases, so it is absolutely no deterrent or solution to shoplifting.”
