Predicting The 2024 NFL Award Winners

Last year’s NFL Awards saw Lamar Jackson capture his second career MVP, and Myles Garrett received his first Defensive Player of the Year trophy, among other hardware handed out on the night. How will the awards look this year?

MVP: Patrick Mahomes

While it might be an up-and-down race all season, Patrick Mahomes is poised to win another NFL MVP award. He already has two of them, but now he actually might have some weaponry, which is a massive upgrade from last season. Hollywood Brown and Xavier Worthy have to be better than what they had last season.

Mahomes is coming off a season in which he finished seventh in the MVP race. He threw for 4,183 yards and 27 touchdowns on a 67.2% completion rate. It was a down year for him, but he still was able to capture the second of back-to-back Super Bowls and the Super Bowl MVP. Now, he’s hungry for the ever-so-elusive threepeat. He’ll be a man on a mission this season.

OPOY: Ja’Marr Chase

Although Christian McCaffrey won the award last season, Ja’Marr Chase will look to return it to the wide receivers in 2024. He’s hungry for a contract and appears to have a healthy Joe Burrow to start the season.

Last season, with varying quarterback play, Chase still caught 100 passes for 1,216 yards and seven touchdowns, averaging 76 receiving yards per game and 12.2 yards per catch on his 6.3 receptions. He’s looking to be the highest-paid receiver in football, and an Offensive Player of the Year award on the shelf would help.

DPOY: TJ Watt

You can argue that TJ Watt was downright robbed of the Defensive Player of the Year award last season by Myles Garrett , who did essentially nothing from November on. The last time Watt got robbed for DPOY was in 2020 when Aaron Donald won the award, and Watt claimed it the following season. He will bring that same energy this season.

Watt had a great season in 2023, leading the NFL in sacks for the third time in his career with 19. He also had one interception, four forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries , including one for a touchdown. He also had 68 total tackles, 48 of which were solo, and 19 tackles for loss. It was an incredible season for the Steelers edge rusher who should have tied his brother, JJ Watt, in DPOY awards.

OROY: Caleb Williams

This one doesn’t need much explaining, but as the number one overall pick and one of the best quarterback prospects in some time, Caleb Willams seems like the easy favorite to win the Offensive Rookie of the Year award.

There has never been a number one pick in the NFL that has been set up as well as WIlliams appears to be. The Bears went out and got him some stud pass catchers in Keenan Allen and Rome Odunze to go with DJ Moore and Cole Kmet. The cupboards are loaded for Williams; let’s see what he can cook in his rookie season.

DROY: Terrion Arnold

The race for Defensive Rookie of the Year will be an odd one. The draft seemed pretty barren of first-round defensive talent outside of a handful of guys, but the pick here is Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold .

Arnold was a stud at Alabama last season, receiving First-Team All-American honors and leading the SEC in interceptions with six. His NFL player comparison is Marshon Lattimore, and if he turns out anything like that, the Lions’ defense will be terrifying for years to come.

COY: Dan Campbell

This one is throwing darts at a board, so let’s go with Dan Campbell. The Lions are poised for a massive year after last season, which didn’t end the way Campbell or the Lions felt it should. The Lions only have to play outside of a dome three times during the year. Three times is insane.

If the Lions play like they should this season, look out for Campbell in the COY race and maybe even Jared Goff in the mix for the MVP award.

Super Bowl Prediction: Chiefs vs. Lions

While a threepeat is one of the hardest things to do in sports, it’s tough to put anything past Patrick Mahomes at this point. The Lions are expected to have a big year, but the NFC is a harsh jungle. While Mahomes will have to deal with a good field in the AFC, it’s tough to imagine anyone stopping him if the Chiefs stay healthy this season.

Chiefs threepeat, Mahomes wins his fourth Super Bowl MVP and third regular season MVP, potentially putting himself on Tom Brady’s tail in the GOAT conversation.
