The trade rumors involving San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk are at an all-time high . At this point, it sure looks like Aiyuk will be playing elsewhere once the 2024 season begins, although it remains to be seen where he ends up.

But, 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey ignited those rumors even further on Tuesday. During a segment of NFL Network's Inside Training Camp Live, McCaffrey addressed Aiyuk as a "former teammate."

"That's not part of my job," McCaffrey said while discussing the Aiyuk rumors. "That's not part of my position. Obviously, as a former teammate, you know, a teammate of his in general, any teammate that you have, you love and respect them. You want the best for them."

McCaffrey calling Aiyuk a former teammate is interesting given everything that has surfaced recently regarding his next step.

The 49ers have not been able to make any progress on a new contract for the wide receiver. Moreover, several teams have inquired about acquiring Aiyuk.

The Cleveland Browns and New England Patriots also reportedly have offers on the table, and the Pittsburgh Steelers remain engaged in trying to land Aiyuk .

But, McCaffry calling Aiyuk a "former teammate" is an interesting wrinkle, and perhaps the 49ers star running back has some insight on the situation.
