Dillon Brooks Eats Crow After Canada Loses to France, Wembanyama

Behind Team USA, Canada was the favorite to win the gold medal in the men's Olympic Basketball tournament. On Tuesday, they fell to Victor Wembanyama and France, 82-73.
France took an early lead and never gave it up, and the home fans cheering on their team in Paris made sure the Canadians knew that they were not favored in Accor Arena. France will go on to face Germany in the semifinal before getting to compete for at least a bronze medal.
While Wembanyama did not have the performance of a lifetime, his seven points, 12 rebounds, five assists, three steals, and a block were enough to keep him on the court for 27 minutes. Shai Gilegous-Alexander, of the Oklahoma City Thunder, led all scorers with 27 points but it was not enough, as Canada was sent packing.
Before the game, Candian forward Dillon Brooks was talking some trash, telling reporters that "I can tell my boys [on the Houston Rockets] that I was on the best player in the world, and I stopped him."
While calling Wembanyama "the best player in the world" is high praise, and Brooks' defense on Wembanyama was very, very good, the superstar for the San Antonio Spurs got the last laugh, blocking a Brooks' fadeaway with 2:39 left that would have made it a five-point game.
Brooks, and teammate Jamal Murray, have come under fire on social media for their combined four-of-22 shooting in the game. Canada will next attempt to win their first Men's Basketball Olympic medal since 1936 in Los Angeles in 2028.
