On Tuesday afternoon, Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant, and the USA men's national basketball team moved on to the semifinals after beating Brazil 122-87 in the 2024 Paris Olympics. Team USA is now 4-0 in the Olympics and will, once again, face Nikola Jokic and Serbia on Thursday.
At the 3:06 mark of the third quarter, Durant scored his sixth point of the game and the 489th point of his Olympic career. In doing so, he passed WNBA and Los Angeles Sparks legend Lisa Leslie (488) for the most career Olympic points for a USA player.
Following the game, LeBron made an Instagram story congratulating Durant on his new accomplishment.
"Yessir!! Congrats Trey-5," LeBron captioned his story.
The "Trey-5" name LeBron mentioned in his story comes from Durant's shoe, the 'Nike KD Trey 5." This particular footwear was released in 2020 and is a budget-friendly edition of his signature line.
Durant finished the game against Brazil with 11 points, four rebounds, and four assists. His Olympic point total sits at 494, and he is likely to add to that against Serbia.
LeBron added 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting and nine assists but left the game in the third quarter due to injury .
Durant is playing in his fourth Olympic games. He won gold in London 2012, Rio de Janeiro 2016, and Tokyo 2020. He is also a two-time NBA champion, with both titles coming during his tenure with the Golden State Warriors. Durant was also named the 2014 NBA MVP.
Like Durant, Leslie is a two-time WNBA champion but has him beat on MVP awards with three. She won four Olympic gold medals herself from 1996 to 2008. KD will look to match her medal count this week.
