The San Francisco 49ers announced a pair of roster moves on Monday afternoon , signing veteran running back Matt Breida and placing wide receiver Malik Turner on the Injured Reserve List.

It’s a homecoming for Breida, who originally joined the 49ers as an undrafted free agent in 2017 after a stellar collegiate career at Georgia Southern. In three seasons with San Francisco, he appeared in 43 games, with 381 carries for 1,902 yards, and six rushing touchdowns, while averaging just under five yards per attempt.

He was also productive out of the backfield as a receiver, with 67 catches for 561 yards and four TDs.

Breida was traded to the Miami Dolphins during the 2020 NFL draft. He spent one season with the Dolphins, followed by a one-year stint with the Buffalo Bills, before spending the last two seasons backing up Saquon Barkley with the New York Giants.

For his career, Breida has played in 98 games (24 starts), rushing for 2,652 yards on 575 attempts, with nine touchdowns on the ground.

He’s made five appearances in the postseason, rushing 16 times for 50 yards and one TD.

Breida joins a backfield that includes superstar Christian McCaffery, veterans Elijah Mitchell, Jordan Mason, and Patrick Taylor Jr., and rookie Cody Schrader.

Turner, signed by the 49ers on July 25, is in his sixth season. He joined the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent in 2018 where he played two seasons before joining the Dallas Cowboys for two more and eventually signing with the 49ers in 2022.

After being released by the 49ers in November 2022, he had stints on the practice squads of the Las Vegas Raiders and Houston Texans. Turner joined the Indianapolis Colts in February 2023 but was placed on injured reserve in August of last year.

Turner has 29 receptions for 414 yards and four touchdowns in 44 games in his career.
