The start of the Italian Serie A season is 10 days away, and AC Milan looks sure happy to have American superstar Christian Pulisic in its starting lineup.
The USMNT captain notched a goal and an assist within the opening 15 minutes of play Tuesday night during Milan's friendly against Spanish giants Barcelona FC in Baltimore, Maryland.
In the 10th minute, Pulisic received the ball on the right side of the penalty box, sneaking past the defenders and catching the Barcelona goaltender out of position on the near post. He then crossed the ball across the face of goal to his waiting teammate, Luka Jovic, who scored with ease putting Milan up 1-0.
Just five minutes later, Pulisic made a run to the left edge of the penalty area where teammate Rafael Leao placed a pass right into his stride.
Pulisic followed the pass into the box and fired a rocket at an incredibly tight angle into the net and doubled Milan's lead.
Pulisic finished his 2023-24 season in Milan with 15 goals and nine assists across all competitions, good for second-best on the team in both categories.
Tuesday's friendly in Baltimore was Pulisic's first start since his final match for the USMNT and its disappointing group-stage exit from Copa America in early July.
Milan and Barcelona ended the match in a 2-2 tie, the final friendly for both teams in the United States before their respective domestic seasons begin.
