Brandon Aiyuk is not going to New England. Rumors about the New England Patriots' pursuit of the San Francisco 49ers star wide receiver started heating up a day or two ago. Reports emerged that the Pats already have the framework of a deal done.

However, it was reported today that the Patriots are bowing out of the Aiyuk sweepstakes. Adam Schefter's report says that the team inquired about Aiyuk but decided to just focus on their young wide receivers.

Another reporter, Matt Maiocco, added some more information about the Patriots' decision. As it turns out, it was Aiyuk himself that was the final hurdle to be cleared in the trade.

"The Patriots had an agreement in place with the 49ers and a large offer to Aiyuk on the table, but he did not show interest in going there," Maiocco said.

Aiyuk's trade request stems from his desire for a new contract. After a breakout year where he reached a career-high 1,342 receiving yards, the 49ers star wanted a new hefty contract from his team. However, San Francisco is unwilling to give him what he wants.

Over the last few days, the 49ers' tune has shifted. After refusing to include Aiyuk in trade talks, the team has reportedly allowed the wide receiver to look for a trade. The Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers are two of the teams linked to Aiyuk.

The Patriots will now instead focus on developing their wide receivers for the 2024 season. They will come into the season with KJ Osborn joining Kendrick Bourne and Juju Smith-Schuster in their WR room.
